    Oct. 2006 - Two more grants were awarded by the SCAT project, among them was the first European young scientist to go to Latin America. Dr Thomas Seón joins the Physics Dept., University of Chile, as a postdoc.

    Sep. 2006 - The SCAT project was featured in the University of Bristol's magazine for disseminating research. The article highlights goals of knowledge transfer and collaboration, and the first two grantees in Bristol.

    Sep. 2006 - The topic was "Mathematical Modelling and Challenges in Computational Science", and several invited speakers joined with SCAT members for a full programme of presentations.

    Aug. 2006 - The Bristol Mathematics Alumni Newsletter featured important accomplishments of the year, among which were the SCAT project and the Bristol High Performance Computing centre.

    Jun. 2006 - Three grants were awarded on the first round of applications: Felipe Cruz (pictured), Miguel Bustamante and Helmut Wahanik will travel to Europe to commence their research in September.

    Jun. 2006 - Highlights of the meeting were a distance tutorial given via AccessGrid from Chicago by the developers of PETSc (see slides in PDF), and sponsored presentations by Apple, Intel Software and Allinea.

    May 2006 - In a unique opportunity for university-wide discussions, Dr Barba was a presenter on the seminar "Research in Developing Countries", at the Institute of Advanced Studies, Bristol University.

    Apr. 2006 - A fabulous site was built using design and template build by Nameless Media, a lot of help from Bristol staff, and dedicated content development by the SCAT coordination office in Bristol.

  • distance collaboration SCAT collaboration enhanced with Blackboard
    Mar. 2006 - The Blackboard tool, designed for online learning, is put to use by the SCAT team for securely sharing documents, group communication and online discussions.

  • group at upc SCAT project launch at Technical University of Catalunya
    Feb. 2006 - During the week starting on 20 Feb., the SCAT project was launched at the Terrassa campus of Technical University of Catalunya. Representatives from all the 10 partner institutions were present.

  • amelia Amelia Earhart Fellow launches research project (PDF printout)
    Jan. 2006 - Dr Lorena Barba, a 1999 Amelia Earhart Fellow, secured a grant that will provide 20 scholarships for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows, for research mobilities between Europe and Latin America.

    Dec. 2005 - El proyecto SCAT, enfocado al campo de la Ingeniería y Ciencia Computacional, ha sido recientemente aprobado por la Comunidad Europea por medio de la oficina de cooperación, EuropeAid.

  • lorena University of Bristol announces SCAT project
    Dec. 2005 - A three-year contract with the EC has been signed to pursue a project of collaboration in computer-aided scientific research. Mobility grants and international meetings form part of the actions of this project, led by Dr Lorena Barba.
